Independence on Independence Day

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

It is time for summer fun! The 4th of July represents the epitome of summer fun for many of us – but so much more – as we celebrate our Independence Day. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain. Our founders – the original immigrants – sought freedom from England primarily for failing to follow the rule of law in their dealings with 13 colonies in America.

In this year of 2021 we are so ready to celebrate. We have seen the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness halted and threatened by the pandemic. The lockdowns interfered with freedom of assembly, with freedom of religion, with freedom to earn a living, with freedom to educate our children and so much more. Virtually no one was untouched. As normalcy returns to some of our activities, it is a good time to reflect on our independence – and to again demand a government that derives its powers from “the consent of the governed”.

It is time to think about freedom and to celebrate our independence to ensure that it continues for our children, our grandchildren and future generations. We did not seek the confrontation limiting personal liberty that the pandemic has brought, but we must face it. Enjoy some fireworks or hamburgers and hot dogs – but also go back to church or return to your book club or have a neighborhood block party. Reclaim your rights and redeem your unalienable rights.

And for current and aspiring homeowners, remember that one of the main motivations of people fleeing Great Britain was the right to own property – and to be free of the landlords there who were granted ownership rights by the monarchy. Our desire and motivations to be homeowners continues today in spite of many unprecedented challenges. It is our mission at America’s Homeowner Alliance to promote and protect sustainable homeownership for all segments of America. Join AHA Now!
